Costco opens its first New Zealand shop on Wednesday, but shoppers shouldn’t expect it to lead immediately to large discounts at other grocery retailers, one expert says.
The chain’s West Auckland branch will have about $24 million worth of goods on sale across its 14,800m2 site.
It had been hoped that the arrival of the retailer, which charges a membership fee to shoppers to access its specials, might add some competition to New Zealand’s supermarket sector.
